American artist Jeff Koons is a divisive figure in contemporary art today. While some critics view his work as wholly innovative and preposterously genius, others dismiss his large-scale sculpture work as kitschy self-merchandising. There's no debating this though: his orange, mirror-polished stainless sculpture Balloon Dog holds the record for the most expensive work ever sold by a living artist at auction, at a staggering $58.4 million in 2013.

As practically a case study in the grandiloquence of the high-profile rap world, Koons has announced that he's been commissioned by Jay-Z to create an enormous, 40-foot balloon dog to serve as a stage piece for the lyrical veteran to perform in front of during his 2017 festival tour. Regardless of where you stand on the place the piece has in the greater history of contemporary art, it's certainly a sight to behold.
