Joe Einhorn Creates Comic Haven for Young Artists

This Brooklyn based studio for kids is keeping the art of comics alive.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, is that the imagination of children is boundless. And that boundless creativity is exactly what Joe Einhorn is capturing every day with Loot, the new art studio for kids. Based out of Brooklyn, Loot showcases their extensive collection of over 3,000 rare comic books to help inspire the many children who step foot in the studio. Developing a fascination with comics at an early age, Joe recalls when it all first began, saying “My Mom gave me my first comic book, Archie, when I was a kid and I’ve been hooked ever since.” Designed to be a place to escape and enter a wonderland of comics, Loot encourages children to express their imagination through various mediums of art, to help build their creative skills, collaborate with others, and even become mini entrepreneurs. “Kids can create and sell their own comics with us to earn ‘loot’,” explains Einhorn, who took inspiration from bitcoin when creating the in-house currency. “They keep 90% of their sales and we take 10% (to cover credit card processing and other expenses)”.

During these troubling times, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the comic studio continues to encourage their young artists to remain creative. ”We have been uploading free art lessons to our Instagram every morning, 7 days a week.” says Einhorn when speaking about how Loot continues to inspire their young group of artists. “We’ve posted around 30 lessons already, including titles such as how to make a shark out of cardboard, how to draw perspective, etc. We have also been providing free files for families to download and print coloring kits, art to trace, and much more.”

In addition to their online tutorials which helps entertain the creatives who are stuck at home, Loot is currently hosting a challenge for the kids to create their own comic book character and submit their art to the Loot team, for a chance to have their own action figure with the help of toymaker and artist Steven Cartoccio. “We have also been sharing the progress of the production of the action figures and messaging with our community on Instagram. When we opened Loot, we set out to be an analog alternative to digital entertainment but at the end of the day, our priority is serving as many families as we can.”
