John Legend Wraps Up Second Night of the Democratic National Convention

The first all-virtual convention.

This past Monday, the Democratic Party kicked off the Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to formally nominate the next president and vice president of the United States. The party members from across the country officially announced the 2020 Democratic Party platform.

Last night, John Legend closed off the second night with an emotional performance of his recent ballad, “Never Break.” The uplifting number saw a solo John Legend playing a Yamaha grand piano and an empty audience. By the end of the song Legend had been joined by a group of soulful backup singers who gradually came in throughout the performance.

The all-virtual convention, with its awkward pauses and internet mishaps, is an alternative to the in-person event due to the ongoing pandemic. The past two days have seen a mix of political figures giving virtual speeches like Michelle Obama, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and former president Bill Clinton. Last night the spotlight was on Biden’s wife, Jill who gave a touching speech in support of her husband.

The virtual Democratic National Convention continues tonight with performances from Billie Eilish and Jennifer Hudson, and ends tomorrow August 20.
