John Mayer Teases New Album On TikTok

The musician revealed his eighth studio album is finished and shared a snippet of a new song.

John Mayer has confirmed that he has finished working on his highly-anticipated eighth studio album. The musician broke the news via a short clip on TikTok. “My album is recorded, mixed and mastered,” he wrote on the video, which he has also shared on his Instagram stories. “I’ve just been chilling and sharing it with friends for the past couple of months.”

He further teased fans by repeatedly saying “I think I’m gonna drop a clip of the single,” which he did (sort of): on Monday, Mayer shared a video of him playing with dogs, one of which looks like his black labrador Moose, with a new upbeat snippet serving as the soundtrack.

“choo choo here comes new music,” he wrote in the caption.

Fans have been waiting for a studio album since Mayer’s 2017 record The Search for Everything. In the meantime, he released the single “New Light” in 2018, followed by the 2019 songs “I Guess I Just Feel Like” and “Carry Me Away.”

He has also collaborated on “Outta My Head,” from Khalid’s 2019 album Free Spirit, and in 2020 he partnered up with Leon Bridges on the quarantine track “Inside Friend.”

Last week, Mayer joined Maren Morris at the 63rd Grammy Awards to perform her 2019 track “The Bones,” which was nominated for Best Country Song.

A release date for Mayer’s new album has yet to be announced.
