Kamal. Returns With A New Single You Wish You Wrote

“Free Flow” gives voice to your deepest emotions

British musician Kamal. returns with a new single and a whole whirlwind of emotions that will make your heart flutter. “Free Flow,” which is the second release from his upcoming so here you are, drowning mixtape set for release on March 17th, is all about the extreme emotion one feels when they first start dating someone. “’Free Flow’ is a reflection on extremes in the early stages of a relationship; delicately positioned between excessive displays of adoration and deep insecurity,” Kamal. revealed.

Does this sound familiar? The universal experience of mirroring ourselves in our lovers’ eyes, vacillating between a sense of belonging and the adrenaline rush of all the first times. The cherry on top? The song is accompanied by a Tyrus-directed video that depicts Kamal. receiving stick and poke tattoos which, according to the musician, is “a symbol of [the feeling’s] intensity, and its permanent effects.”

To reach the depth of the meaning of romantic relationships and understand the power dynamic one undergoes, Kamal. spent almost two years documenting and self-analyzing his emotions. His dedication has been ultimately rewarded with the translation of his findings in writing–in fact, “essential,” which is the first track from the forthcoming mixtape, has become his fastest streaming song to date, currently at 800K streams in just three weeks.

Certainly, for those who have been following Kamal.’s artistic trajectory, his success doesn’t come as a surprise. Raised to the notes of musicians such as Maxwell, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and Bill Withers, Kamal. has quickly separated himself from the crowd thanks to his talent at the piano. The addition of lyrical texts has only contributed further to making him the voice of a generation. His ability to capture the peaks and valleys of one’s mind, and convert them into lyrics we can all easily relate to, has been demonstrated by his heartening 250 million streams and his recent Ivor Novello award nomination. And the praise comes from recognized artists too–Billie Eilish has been said to be a fan of Kamal.’s single “blue,” while Brit Award-winning rapper Dave collaborated with him on Top-40 single “Mercury.”

“Free Flow” is once again the result of Kamal.’s sweet timbre meeting and reflecting on the harsh truth of the surrounding world. He doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable feeling of facing memories but rather dives into their recollection to find himself again. It will leave you in awe, and probably in tears too, but it is a necessary journey for you to take.
