Kanye West for President (But for Real This Time)

Kanye West announced on Twitter that he is running for president.

Kanye West is throwing his hat in the ring to become the most powerful person in the world.

The famous rapper tweeted on the nation’s independence day that he is running to become the 46th president of the United States. The Tweet was met with an uproar of hilarity, shock and in some cases — support.

Kim Kardashian, West’s wife, retweeted his declaratory message including only an emoji of the American flag. Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and friend of West, tweeted support for the supposedly new candidate.

Despite West’s announcement, the rapper has missed several FEC deadlines to enter the race in some key states across the country. In fact, West has missed his home state of California’s presidential primary which took place in March. While his chances of scoring a major party’s nomination are virtually impossible, West may be able to get on some ballots as an Independent.

West is no stranger to politics and the White House. Back in 2018, West wore a MAGA hat and met with Mr. Donald Trump in the oval office surrounded by a sea of reporters capturing the soon to be viral event.

“You know, they tried to scare me to not wear this [MAGA] hat, my own friends. This hat gives me power in a way,” West said in a video taken at the viral oval office meeting.

This is not the first time West has toyed with the idea of running for president. Last year, West announced that he was going to run for president in 2024. If he gathers enough support in 2020, West would be America’s third former-celebrity president.
