Kappa and S.S.C. Napoli Honor Diego Maradona With a Jersey Collab

A bright blue striped jersey pays tribute to the Argentinian football legend.

In November of 2020, football fans mourned the passing of Diego Maradona, who was one of the sport’s finest players of all time. Born in Argentina, where “football” means soccer and nothing else, Maradona quickly took to the game and honed his legendary talent. Known as “El Pibe de Oro,” or “The Golden Boy” for his remarkable skill, Maradona played for many teams over the course of his storied career, including the Italian football club S.S.C. Napoli in the ’80s and early ’90s, leading the team to great success during that period.  With a new jersey for sale, S.S.C. is honoring their “Golden Boy” in collaboration with Italian sportswear company Kappa.

The design takes inspiration from Maradona’s look when he led Argentina to victory in the 1986 FIFA World Cup and uses the traditional bright blue color of S.S.C. The jersey has a slim fit and features several appearances by the iconic Kappa logo, as well as a 3D patch of the S.S.C. logo, placed exactly where it is on the professionals’ jerseys. In fact, these jerseys have been game-tested; for a moving tribute to Maradona’s life and career, the S.S.C. Napoli team played wearing them in a match between Napoli and A.S. Roma. Maradona became the coach of Argentina’s national team in 2008, which is no small honor; Argentina is serious about football. Until his death, Maradona coached many other teams, always surrounding himself with the sport he loved. Fans of Maradona and football in general will want to get their hands on this jersey and celebrate the legacy of the man it commemorates.
