Kendrick Lamar took to Instagram to make an important announcement: he just hit multi-platinum for the first time in his career, with his recently released DAMN. For those who don't know what that Recording Industry Association of America certification means in literal terms, to the RIAA "a unit" is considered to be 1 album sale, 10 track sales, or 1,500 track streams. Hitting double platinum means he's moved two million units in the just three months since the album released. Lamar is the first and only artist to achieve this certification in all of 2017, and he's done it with time to spare.

It's not surprising, given that DAMN. had the best album sales week of 2017 as well when it was released in April, selling 603,000 units in the first week and debuting as #1 on the Billboard Top 200. It hit platinum just a few weeks later, in May.

Still, Lamar remains humble in his Instagram post, writing: "These murals forever belong to my fans. You've always taken my words above and beyond. Around the world and back again. With trust. I am forever grateful. 2x." Damn, Kendrick.
