Kid Cudi Rocks A Floral Dress For SNL Performance

The musician honored Kurt Cobain and Chris Farley with his commemorative fashion choices.

This weekend’s Saturday Night Live celebrated legendary performers of the past and present. Near the 26th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death at age 27, musical guest Kid Cudi paid tribute to the late, great lead singer of Nirvana in a floral dress.

The dress was custom designed by Off-White’s Virgil Abloh, complete with the words “off white pattern” on the bodice. Its white floral print mirrored a dress Cobain wore in the 90s. During his performance, Cudi also sported a green cardigan, a callback to a similar sweater Cobain wore to MTV’s 1993 Unplugged show. Cudi paid homage to beloved SNL star Chris Farley as well, donning a T-shirt of the comedian who died of a drug overdose in 1997.

Cudi’s tributes to the dearly departed aimed to commemorate the music and comedy legends and raise awareness about suicide prevention. His retweets confirm his intentions for his bold outfit choices.

Twitter applauded Cudi’s heartfelt decision to honor Cobain, embracing the Nirvana singer’s revolutionary spirit.

While the only news-worthy thing about Kid Cudi’s outfit choice should be his thoughtful tribute, the trend of men wearing women’s clothing has been wrought with controversy. Back in November, pop music darling Harry Styles was criticized by right-wing politicians for wearing a flowing Gucci number on the cover of Vogue. Before that, Jaden Smith had to defend himself via Twitter after facing backlash for his gender-bending fashion choices. “If I wanna wear a dress, then I will,” he wrote.

Cudi is looking forward to more creative fashion contributions in the future. He announced via Twitter that he will be collaborating with Off-White on a clothing collection, including his now-famous dress.
