The Loewe SS20 Menswear collection is what summer vacation should look like. Innocent, pure, and dreamy; Johnathon Anderson’s models embody a blissful bubble far away from everyday life’s stressors. The audience is welcomed into a concrete bunker that is transformed into a digital recreation of summer vibes; video installations by Hilary Lloyd portray sunlight shining through a set of thighs, sunglasses on a face, and radiating plants. In only his second menswear show for the label, Anderson solidifies his distinct vision for the Spanish leather goods company.

The collection is curated and displayed with control, forcing Loewe’s personal idea of fantasy onto the collective. No audience member could deny the sophistication permeating the abstract looks. The show is a collection of dress-like garments for men; from caftans to tunics matched with trousers, the distinctive collection is filled with layered textures, stripes, and cuts. The knitwear is coupled with moccasins, espadrille boots, leather slip-ons, Roman sandals and an eclectic range of colorful bags. It’s the kind of clothing you want to be caught traveling in, free from your distaste for reality and consumed by wanderlust.

Moreover, the collection is unisex and realistic. Showing similar intention to shows like Comme des Garçons’, the collection falls outside of the confining box of a gendered aesthetic. The collection radiates individualism while remaining wearable and understated. In Loewe’s fantasy world, you can be anyone you want to be.
