Louis Vuitton Men’s Debuts Fall/Winter 2022 Spin-Off Show in Bangkok

The show featured nine unseen looks from the original ‘Louis Dreamhouse’ collection

Virgil Abloh’s debut collection as the artistic director of Louis Vuitton Men’s was an outerwear-infused nod to The Wizard of Oz. Now, nearly six months after the creative’s passing, that fantastical legacy lives on, this time in the form of a vibrant spin-off show ‘Louis Dreamhouse².’

Presented in Bangkok, Thailand, the collection featured nine never-before-seen looks from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection unveiled in January. Always willing to lend a helping hand to emerging creatives, Abloh looked to both coming-of-age narratives and global perspectives as inspiration.

“We might go to India or Kansas or Cuba, but wherever we go the focus is youth: the stage in your life before you’ve been taught or programmed to do, think or wear certain things,” Abloh explained in June, 2019. “And in that study, you realise that teenagers on opposite sides of the world are dealing with the same things. It reflects the fact that, fundamentally, we are all one.”

Opening the spin-off collection were a duo of sleekly tailored looks: a nipped-waist blazer and strong-shouldered waistcoast. Then, graphic motifs and pops of color appeared, further underscoring Abloh’s dreamy references.

Too, the collection narrates the tradition of a Hero’s Journey, navigating the tale of an underdog who is doubted, tested, and ultimately becomes a sensation in the eyes of his spectators. Very meta.

Abloh signatures—loose-fitted trousers, baggy varsity jackets, dreamy pattern play—were commonplace throughout while new ventures included reimagined crinolines and tiered tulle skirts paired with ultra-flashy motifs.

Though Abloh presented only eight full collections for Louis Vuitton menswear, his immeasurable legacy as the brand’s first Black artistic head surely transcends time. See more from ‘Louis Dreamhouse²’, below.
