Ludovic de Saint Sernin pushes the limit with his spring Ludovic de Saint Sernin SS20 collection. Quite literally “Wet’n’Wild,” the show circulates a conceptual pool on top of the Centre Pompidou . The surrounding Paris Skyline fell invisible next to the nearly-nude models covered by the collection.

We thought that alternate designers were making large strides towards challenging the gender binary this runway season. This show forces us to question our expectations; de Saint Sernin breaks all the rules and does so in style. The collection spotlights racy silhouettes shaped by draping silky slip dresses and satin pajama shorts sets. Embracing the hot humidity, Saint Sernin allows the see-through organza suits to stick to the models' skin, followed by white sweaters with purposeful sweat patterns. Even more jaw-dropping, metal cock rings manifest as necklaces and what appears as a towel is actually a merino wool skirt.

De Saint Sernin unapologetically designed clothes that make you think about sex. Nonetheless, his exquisite cutting technique is illuminated throughout the knitwear pieces. Using a majority of young models, the collection speaks to a generation of nonconforming young designers and artists ready to break free from gender constructs. De Saint Sernin proves how far fashion can go in making a sexually charged statement regarding social norms.
