Maison Margiela Fall/Winter 2020

Co-ed designs were the highlight of the French fashion house’s runway show this season.

Various co-ed ensembles strode across the runway during Maison Margiela’s Fall/Winter 2020 show. Creative director John Galliano defied gender norms with this Défilé collection, featuring a bourgeois wardrobe that alluded to a more gender-neutral aesthetic.

Translucent fabrics melded with splices of tailored wool signified an androgynous approach for this season. The color palette conveyed a range of earthy tones complemented by pastels and concentrated colors, shifting this focus between the feminine and the masculine. Recicla, a technique that upcycles authentic vintage pieces, was incorporated into the Fall/Winter 2020 collection; garments with the white Recicla label indicated Galliano’s handpicked, limited edition pieces he refurbished for this season’s event.
