Maison Margiela X Reebok Announce New Collaboration
In the two brands’ latest installment of creative dialogue, Maison Margiela ‘shells’ two signature styles.
The duo returns for a new installment in their collaboration, announcing the Classic Leather Memory Of and Club C Memory Of, reinterpreting the classic sneaker silhouettes through the codes of Maison Margiela.
The first two of the five styles to be released this spring, the collaboration draws from the ethos of the Parisian fashion house, ‘memory of being a set of codes that reigns the house’s creative process. When applied to Reebok’s Classic Leather and Club C designs, the two sneakers are given a transformation that blends with Margiela’s identifying features and their collective memory.
The Classic Leather Memory Of features exposure of the hidden construction of the sneaker using a “décortiqué” method, a shelling process through exposing punched holes that once held stitching, felt liner becoming visible, and the protective heel is removed to reveal the heel cap. For the Club C Memory Of, the “décortiqué” of the shoe is applied through the means of reduction, uncovering silver pen marks used in the shoemaker process. At the same time, the Reebok label is slashed to be fused with that of Maison Margiela.
A symbiosis of the two labels, the original silhouette by Reebok, will remain the same while Margiela’s distinct restructure through premium leather and an EVA sole. The two styles will be available in black and white, making it an easy addition as a go-to sneaker. Available on March 25th in select Maison Margiela flagship stores and on the Maison Margiela and Reebok websites, the Classic Leather Memory Of and Club C Memory Of will retail at USD $350.
