Marvel Studios Unveils New ‘Black Widow’ Trailer

The action-packed video nods at the character’s past within the “Avengers” franchise.

After a series of delays, it’s finally happening: Black Widow is officially premiering this year. And to give fans another glimpse into the story, Marvel Studios has unveiled a new trailer full of action and nods to the titular character’s past within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The two-minute clip features a voice-over by Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), the Black Widow, who describes how, among other things, she didn’t really feel like she had a family until she joined the Avengers. “You don’t know everything about me, I’ve lived a lot of lives,” she says. “I made mistakes choosing between what the world wants you to be, and who you are.”

The trailer is filled with action cuts, including fights, explosions, and breathtaking CGI-infused scenes. It also shows a bit more of Natasha’s connection to Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), another highly skilled agent who will be introduced in the movie.

The video also showcases new scenes featuring Red Guardian (David Harbour) and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), said to be father and mother figures to Natasha, respectively, and provides a more detailed look at the villain Taskmaster (who exactly is playing the character is still a mystery, as most things related to the MCU usually are).

Black Widow will be reportedly set right after the events of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, which saw the Avengers team torn apart before they reunited in 2018’s Infinity War. Finding herself alone, Natasha will have to confront unresolved conflicts from her past and her time as a spy.

The movie was originally scheduled to be released in May 2020 but had to be delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is now officially set to premiere simultaneously in theaters and for an additional fee on Disney+ on July 9, marking the first theatrical release of the MCU’s Phase Four – which also includes the Disney+ series WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier
