Matthew M. Williams Takes Us to Church in 1017 ALYX 9SM’s Fall/Winter 2022 Show

1017 ALYX 9SM’s first Milan show was as stunning as it was cool.

Designer Matthew M. Williams stunned his (live!) audience with 1017 ALYX 9SM’s first ever show at Milan Men’s Fashion Week, titled FADE. Backed with beats by producer F1lthy and set in a church complete with painted ceilings, Williams once again pushed the envelope of streetwear design.

In 1017 ALYX 9SM’s ready-to-wear Fall/Winter 2022 collection, luxury meets New York City punk meets California streetwear, complete with jackets with feathered necklines and two-toned backless dresses, a nod to the backless looks from last winter’s collection. Colors we traditionally see in winter collections, like black, maroon, and moss green, were joined by dark lilac, making the sharp designs stand out even more.

Williams, who also works as the creative director of Givenchy, was sure to add other stunning details to his looks. Skinny sunglasses, big zippers, balaclavas, and other tactical elements marked nearly every look worn on the runway. Another popular look was button front tank tops, some in leather and some complete with long trains. Statement leather and nylon pieces were littered throughout the show, which also proved that oversized layers are clearly in, as are monochromatic looks.

Black and moss puffers, shearling jackets, and oversized wool blazers with feathered collars were the stars of the show. Jackets have arguably become one of 1017 ALYX 9SM’s signature pieces since they first collaborated with Moncler in early 2020, and this collection solidifies that.

Teased on Instagram several days early, the shoes of the 1017 ALYX 9SM’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection lived up to hype. Williams put forward a futuristic collection of footwear, from chunky sneakers, to heeled sandals, to sculptural boots reminiscent of several of his designs for Givenchy. Most of the shoes stay basic in black and white colorways, but the sandals pop in red.

Williams also tapped several recognizable faces to walk in the show, including musical artists Destroy Lonely and Lancey Foux.
