METAL OUTLAW: Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS21

A collection that transplants the strength of metal into the clothes.

“The metallic materials I often use in my interior designs are very apt in expressing my ideas. I would like to transplant that strength of metal into the clothes this time. I call it METAL OUTLAW,” stated the Japanese designer, Rei Kawakubo about the Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS21 minishow presented in Tokyo. Comme des Garçons Homme Plus is the brand’s mainline men’s collection, established in 1984.

The fabrics used are not actually made of any metal, but have its sense of strength, of heavy weight, and the look of its sheen and gloss, which now have come to form the theme of this collection. Comme des Garçons Homme Plus SS21 transports you to a space where retrofuturism reigns—a vision of the future from the past.

The collection pairs wide silhouettes with tailored pants and jackets—sporty yet edgy. Most of the looks are presented in dark monochromatic colors, but include sudden pieces in bright hues. Every silver tone emulates metal in the way it looks and is shaped. “It is my wish that the strength of metal, the strength that wouldn’t yield to any pressure or force, and the strength that will give birth to hope that we need to overcome the various hardships we now face, will all overlap in this collection,” stated Kawakubo.
