To say Milo Ventimiglia has made a mark on the TV world is an understatement. His first big role as Jess Mariano on Gilmore Girls was so iconic that he even got to come back and play Rory Gilmore’s prized, bad boy suitor once again 10 years later care of Netflix. Now, the 40-year-old actor is focused on the second season of the hit feel-good show This Is Us on NBC. Since Parenthood went off the air, This Is Us has filled the void for the fans of the family drama.

In celebration of TIMEX’s Fall ‘17 collection and premiere week for This Is Us, Ventimiglia spent some time with us in Midtown and dished on his style, the future of Gilmore Girls and the emotional moments of This Is Us.

When they reveal how your character, Jack Pearson died on This Is Us, are you going to be on the show still?

What they told me from day one that I’m going to be here no matter what.

Will people regret knowing how Jack died died?

Television audiences nowadays want answers. So when the information was out there that Jack was deceased in the present day, everyone wanted answers. I wouldn’t say “regret” is the right word I think people are going to be really heartbroken by how it all went down. IBut I don’t think Jack is thinking about it because he’s on the receiving end.

What moment made you cry on This Is Us?

So many. I don’t think I’ve had a “cry harder” moment. But there have been a lot of characters’ moments that have made me emotional. Too many.

How is your personal style similar or different to Jack’s?

Jack is a functional kind of a guy. He works in construction -- he’s in workwear, which feels pretty much what I do in life. But then again, we also have some pretty fantastic clothes from the 70s. Tight pants, loud shirts which aren’t very much like me at all. Jack is someone who [goes for] function over fashion, which is very much aligned with the way I view things.

Is there anything you can reveal about the new season of This Is Us?

You’re going to get to know the family a lot deeper than you already know. The focus was on everyone the first season. You’re going to find out about more about the history of this family byway of the individual characters and characters together. You’re going to learn more about how the characters have grown up.

Did you ever think you’d be able to play Jess again on Gilmore Girls?

I never thought I would, but It was fun to speak Amy Sherman-Palladino’s words again. It’s a piece of my past, but it was also a different experience because it wasn’t the same crew. For me that’s a huge impact on what the experience is - if you have the same consistent, prop, wardrobe and camera team, it makes it a better experience.
