MoMA and Vans’ Art-Inspired Apparel

The collaboration features revolutionary artists such as Claude Monet, Jackson Pollock and Salvador Dalí.

The Museum of Modern Art will launch a two part collection in collaboration Vans, bringing art-lovers footwear, apparel and accessories inspired by iconic artists, later this month.

MoMA and Van’s will release the art-inspired collection in two phases. On September 30, the first set of apparel — inspired by legacy artists Salvador Dalí, Vasily Kandinsky and Claude Monet — will be available online and in MoMA Design store located at 81 Spring St A, New York, NY 10012 and will be open daily from 12PM – 7PM.

The museum’s Associate Director of Licensing and Partnerships Robin Sayetta said MoMA is excited about the collaboration noting that Vans shares a history of supporting artistic expression.

“We pursue a limited number of product collaborations and our goal is always to engage a broader audience with modern art,” Sayetta said. “We are thrilled to reach art lovers around the world through Vans’ global network.”

Apparel influenced by painter Salvador Dalí will feature one of his most recognizable works, The Persistence of Memory. Image of the painting is imprinted on a black long sleeve shirt and abstracted on Vans Old Skool Twist shoes. A blue Dalí-inspired pullover will also be available and feature the painting’s standout dreamlike tree and clock.

Orange, a piece by abstract pioneer Vasily Kandinsky known for his rich color usage, lays across a variety of  apparel including a t-shirt, long sleeve and hat. Kandinsky’s piece also makes an appearance on a pair of Vans’ Classic Slip Ons.

Claude Monet’s impressionist masterpiece Water Lilies takes form on a black sweatshirt and baseball cap. The piece also covers a pair of Vans’ Authentic sneakers which fully embrace the different shades of blue Monet originally painted.

Along with the initial release, MoMA is also debuting ten different museum-inspired colorful creations with influence from Vans’ iconic checkerboard design. The second phase of MoMA and Vans’ release will launch this November featuring artists Edvard Munch, Jackson Pollock, Lybov Popova and Faith Ringgold.
