NBA Players Compete in NBA 2K Tournament for Coronavirus Relief Efforts
The winning player will be crowned NBA 2K20 champion and given $100,000 to donate to the charity of their choice.
With late-night talk show hosts interviewing guests via streams, and concerts being held over Instagram Live, it’s no surprise that we’re having to be creative during these times. Luckily for sports fans who miss their fix, 16 NBA players spanning from more than 10 teams announced they will be competing in the first-ever, official NBA 2k players tournament. Set to begin Friday, April 3rd, the tournament will be aired on ESPN over the course of 10 days.
The tournament will be held on Xbox One, with players competing in rounds one and two as single elimination, while semifinals and finals are best of three games. The participating players, of which includes Kevin Durant, have been selected based on their seeding, determined by their NBA 2k in-game rating and their tenure in the league.
The winning player will be crowned NBA 2K20 champion and given $100,000 by the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) to donate to the charity of their choice in support of ongoing coronavirus relief efforts. “This tournament offers a unique opportunity for our players to compete with one another while also supporting their philanthropic efforts and engaging with their fans,” said Josh Goodstadt, EVP of Licensing for THINK450, the commercial arm of the NBPA.
