Netflix Releases First Trailer For “MANK”

See how “Citizen Kane” came to be in David Fincher’s new film “MANK.”

Remember Citizen Kane, Orson Welles’ two hour behemoth of a film, now remembered as a pivotal work in the storied history of cinema? That Citizen Kane?

Well, there isn’t a thing on Earth Hollywood loves to do more than examine and aestheticize itself. Recent years have seen the release and success of “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood” and “La La Land.” Here’s one more: this December Netflix is debuting “MANK,” a film about the troubled creation of “Citizen Kane.” The project is director David Fincher’s first feature film since the 2014 release of “Gone Girl.”

Fincher’s father, Jack, actually wrote the screenplay for “MANK” before he passed away in 2003. Now, his son is completing the project with a star-studded cast. Gary Oldman stars as Herman Mankiewicz, an alcoholic screenwriter. Tom Burke will portray Welles himself. Lily Collins will be Mank’s secretary, and Amanda Seyfried was cast as Marion Davies.

Netflix’s synopsis of the film reads, “1930s Hollywood is reevaluated through the eyes of scathing social critic and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he races to finish the screenplay of Citizen Kane.”

The film will be available for streaming on Dec. 4, but has a limited theatrical release planned for Nov. Watch the new trailer below.
