TEN YEARS IS A LONG TIME, AND NEW ORDER IS GETTING "RESTLESS"

TEN YEARS IS A LONG TIME, AND NEW ORDER IS GETTING "RESTLESS"

Text: Ian David Monroe

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a decade since New Order’s last proper album. Even so, the band’s electronic dance music-defining sounds and sweeping influence are more relevant than ever, which makes its latest release all the more exciting. “Restless,” the new lead single off the forthcoming album Music Complete, offers the stuck-in-your-head verses and hypnotizing melodies that fans have come to expect. If you listen closely, you might even catch a few bits of 80s synth.

On the album, to fill the void of former bassist Peter Hook’s departure, New Order has tapped Brandon Flowers (of The Killers), Iggy Pop, and Elly Jackson (aka La Roux). Production sees contributions from Tom Rowlands (of The Chemical Brothers), and Grammy winner Stuart Price. Peter Saville, the man behind New Order’s (and Joy Division’s) most iconic album covers, steps up once again to provide art direction.

In the forthcoming issue of VMAN, the remaining members open up to Tim Blanks about the new album, the state of EDM, and the loss of Ian Curtis.
