With his constant flow of musical innovation, trendsetting and controversial outbursts—including this week’s genius video for "Famous"—Kanye West is the curator of all things pop-culture. Of course, every great creator knows that they key to success is surrounding oneself with likeminded creatives. In West's case, one of them is his creative director and immensely talented right hand man, Virgil Abloh, who has remained loyal to the star for over a decade, and showed his Spring 2017 menswear line for his brand Off-White in Paris yesterday—for which West created an hour-long version of his song "Father Stretch My Hands."

Entitled “Mirror Mirror,” the collection boasts an eclectic array of textiles and prints, whilst abiding to a monochrome base theme. Mesh T-shirts were paired with shorts and high-waisted pants, with the most striking details found in graphic and vibrant badging. Abloh teamed his smart-athleisure crossover with an overlay of tartan and checked patterning, and accessorized with leather accents and soccer scarves.

Arguably the most interesting aspect of Abloh’s work is the unpredictable evolution that comes with each season. His original staples, screen-printed concert T-shirts and sweatpants, have matured into knitwear and delicate sheer organza. With the brand still at a young and impressionable age, there is an open arena for innovation, and what Off-White lacks in signature style, it makes up for with a fresh, experimental approach. Kanye’s creative influence is also very much present throughout the line, particularly in the bold frames and prints.

Abloh’s playfulness didn’t stop at the designs, either. Guests were handed disposable cameras on arrival and instructed to freely snap from their seats. The cameras were then collected at the end of the presentation, with the full collection of shots culminating in a photographic souvenir of the show from every position.

Equally as daring as West in design (minus the loud self-proclamation as an artistic prodigy), Abloh is a deserving young designer in his own right, with Off-White filled to the brim with unique potential.
