Olympic Gold Medalist Mondo Duplantis Visits OMEGA’s Tokyo Showcase

The Swedish pole vault champion has been a brand ambassador for the luxury watchmaker since 2020.

Aside from being a pole vault champion and world record holder, and an Olympic gold medal winner, Armand “Mondo” Duplantis is also an OMEGA Ambassador. Now that the hard work is finally over – and with a shiny new Olympic gold medal in hand – Duplantis is ready for his triumphant return to Sweden.

“I have dreamed of this moment my entire life. As far back as I can remember. I have now accomplished the biggest goal I’ve ever had. It’s an amazing moment,” said Duplantis of his Olympics dreams.

But before his departure from the “surreal experience” of the Tokyo Olympics, the pole vault star spent the morning at the OMEGA showcase in the host city. Finally letting himself unwind, Duplantis was given a guided tour of the Swiss luxury watchmaker’s latest timepieces.

An ambassador since 2020, Duplantis wore the Seamaster Aqua Terra “Ultra Light” during his record-breaking 6.18 m jump. With ergonomics in mind, and weighing in at just 55 grams when worn on a sporty strap, Duplantis – who knows how important it is to be light as air – showed off just how weightless this watch really is. It is also the first from OMEGA to feature a case body of Gamma Titanium, an incredibly strong yet lightweight alloy.

This proves itself to be designed with athlete’s needs in mind with elegant details, including a telescopic crown which can be stowed inside the case when not in use to avoid restrictions on hand movement.

But OMEGA knows how to preserve the balance between sportiness and practicality, and luxury.

“It’s a great watch, it’s got the looks. It’s elegant, classy and super light. I check times a lot during jumps, so for me it’s perfect. Best of all, I’m in a league of my own out there,” said Duplantis.
