Patta x Tommy Hilfiger Unveil Capsule Collection Inspired by African Heritage

Dropping on April 9, the collection centers around the Pan-African flag and a theme of unity.

Dutch streetwear boutique Patta is teaming up with Tommy Hilfiger to launch a capsule collection centered around Black unity and the Pan-African flag, bringing together the iconic Tommy designs and African culture and heritage.

A range of hoodies, tees, sweats, jeans, and accessories from the Tommy Hilfiger archives makes up the body of the collection, redressed by Patta with traditional Pan-African colors and evocative messages such as “Unity is Strength, Division is Weakness.”

The collection’s lookbook was shot by Hassan Hajjaj in Lagos, Nigeria, alongside a short-film entitled Two Become One and Katibo Yeye, a documentary by Frank Zichem available to stream today. Centered around Clarence Breeveld, a Suriname migrant living in the Netherlands, Katibo Yeye tells the story of a man following the route of Ghana to Suriname shipping route, embarking on a journey shadowing the trail his enslaved ancestors took.

According to Patta brand director Lee Stuart, the collection wanted to encapsulate the Pan-African perspective through reworked archive styles.

“As a Black-owned company from the Netherlands, we wanted the collection to take classic Tommy aesthetics but have them represent where we’re from,” Stuart told Hypebeast in an interview.

The unisex capsule collection swaps Hilfiger’s signature red, white, and blue logo for one of green, red and black to put African culture at the forefront, highlighting the multifaceted, rich Pan-African nature.

As part of the one-drop capsule, Patta and Tommy Hilfiger will donate to the Black Archives in Amsterdam, Sistah Space in London, and The Good Neighborhood Collective in Milan.
