The latest launch from watch company Richard Mille sees a collaboration with the musician and creative polymath, Pharrell. Dubbed formally as the RM 52-05 Tourbillon Pharrell Williams, the watch model features a one-of-a-kind case design that shows an astronaut taking in a view of planet earth from Mars.

But it doesn’t just look cool, it was also made using exceptionally cool  materials, namely: 90% Titanium, 6% Aluminum and 4% Vanadium, each of which are used regularly in the aerospace and aeronautics industries. Despite the brand’s new take on a visual aesthetic, classic Mille trademarks remained intac like the tonneau-shaped case and use of other precious materials such as red gold, white gold set with diamonds, and titanium.

The technical innovations in this RM 52-05 @pharrell tourbillon calibre are mind-bendingly innovative. Equivalent of a space shuttle, the movement baseplate is machined out of grade 5 titanium through which it is possible to glimpse the grade 5 titanium bridges, skeletonised to evoke rocket launch platforms. It features large inserts in dazzling blue aventurine glass that evoke outer space and the confines of the universe and all its stars. #richardmille #Pharrell

In a statement to RM Williams explained the reason behind the choice to give a galactic feel to the timepiece” “I’ve always been fascinated by looking up at the sky,” he began. “What could be more inspiring than all that ever was and all that ever will be? Space, before your eyes. It’s yours to see. It was here before the Earth, before this Solar System. It’ll be here after us and nothing’s more meaningful than that. When I look up at the sky I’m looking at God. I feel part of so many different parts of a whole. This is the Alpha and the Omega.”

Only 30 of these watches were manufactured and the price is obviously out of this world as well, coming out to a whopping $969,000.
