The Garden, aka twins Wyatt and Fletcher Shears, have been turning out irreverent punk sounds since 2011. On top of that, they’ve been tapped as unofficial muses to Hedi Slimane’s revamped Saint Laurent, starring in the brand’s ad campaigns and walking in its shows, and they've even taken VMAN into their home for a photo shoot.

It’s safe to say, though, that they don’t take their successes too seriously; their press release makes clear that they “don’t care what you think.” Fair enough, considering that their forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2013’s The Life and Times of a Paperclap, is titled Haha, and includes track “All Smiles Over Here :).”

The music video to “Gift,” off of Haha, premiering exclusively on VMAN, follows in the same DIY DGAF aesthetic and sees the boys playing ice hockey, or at least pretending to when they aren’t wrestling each other to the ground. It’s almost two minutes of hyper-masculinity, of an aggression innate to punk, but not necessarily intrinsic to The Garden. Google “Fletcher Shears” and you’ll find plenty of pictures of the singer wearing red lipstick. Then again, you’ll also find plenty of pictures of the two in hockey gear, so maybe the video is nothing more than its face value. Am I reading too far into their work? Jokes on me, haha.

Haha is out October 9 on Epitaph/Burger Record and available for pre-order here
