Pro Skater Mark Suciu Reimagines adidas’s Gazelle
Featuring thicker soles and a suede green exterior, the Gazelle ADV is ready for the ramps.
Everyone’s favorite videographer-skater Mark Suciu has teamed up with adidas Skateboarding. Back in 2011, Suciu pioneered the concept of standalone skating videos in his short, Cross Continental – shifting from the previously, ubiquitous full-length videos. And while he redefined the medium almost a decade ago, now, he’s making his mark on the sneaker world. Here, Suciu recrafts adidas’s classic 1960s running and training shoe, the Gazelle, into the Gazelle ADV. The addition of “ADV” means the shoe has been adapted and bolstered for durability.
“The Gazelle is one of the most time-tested classics from adidas,” Suciu said. “To be personally associated with the shoe, and by extension the legacy of the brand, is a huge honor.”
In keeping with the feel of the original, Suciu’s version has a white leather tongue and heel. The upper consists of a dark green suede segmented by adidas’s classic three white stripes. However, what makes it different from the classic construction is its thickness. Suciu’s Gazelle is thicker than the original to provide increased durability, something needed of a shoe that’s frequently going to scrape coarse grip tape.
“It feels like an extension of my foot,” he elaborates. “I forget about the shoe entirely and just think about my board.”
Finally, the shoe is finished off with gold accents. On the side, “Suciu” is stamped in gold foil under the collar. Along with Suciu’s recent addition to the line, adidas has also collaborated with the likes of Mark Gonzales, Dennis Busenitz, Tyshawn Jones and more.
The shoe is currently available on adidas’s online store. And you can find more details on Gazelle ADV by Mark Suciu here.
