The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are a year late, but Ralph Lauren has used that time to create some of their most innovative designs, with a game-changing focus on sustainable craftsmanship. To create the vivid red, white, and blue shades on the uniforms, Ralph Lauren collaborated with Dow, using the ECOFAST™ Pure Sustainable Textile Treatment. This pre-treatment solution optimizes cotton textiles for a more sustainable dyeing process that requires less water, chemicals, and energy. The athletes’ Olympic patches are made from MIRUM®, a plant-based leather alternative.

Crisp white drawstring jackets and patriotic striped belts are made from Repreve® recycled polyester, which is derived from plastic water bottles. The jackets have a sporty and slightly retro look that celebrates American design and manufacturing – each item in Team USA’s uniform is, of course, manufactured in the United States. The collection debuted with 100 days until the Olympics, and that time is only ticking away. There’s still a lot to consider about the logistics of holding such an international event as the pandemic continues, but vaccines are cause for hope, and the Olympics have always been a source of global unity.
