Re-Edition: Dolce & Gabbana SS23

The brand’s newest collection rediscovers looks from its iconic archive

Dolce & Gabbana’s newest collection revisits the brand’s coveted historical archive in creating a collection that blurs the boundaries between archive and modern fashion. The brand’s iconic roots are central to this collection, which is composed of garments that characterized Dolce & Gabbana’s hit collections from the 90s and early 2000s.

With vintage fashion at the forefront of avant-garde mode, the collection features a cotton label with pieces inscribed with “Re-Edition” and the year the garment was originally presented. The color palette evokes the brand’s Sicilian roots through cream and sandy tones, bright summer whites, and vibrant green hues.

Standout looks include a retro t-shirt that reads “Sicilians are Sensational” in colors inspired by the Italian flag, a multitude of sheer crochet and guipure overshirts, and striking low-cut dress shirts with exaggerated collars. Accessories were marked by religious iconographies such as bold silver cross pendants and jeweled low-slung belts.

Patterns are reminiscent of Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 Romeo + Juliet and a kitsch aesthetic evoking old-world splendor. An impeccably tailored blazer in rose tapestry print is paired with distressed white jeans and velvet slides, evoking a camp aesthetic. Jewel tone embroidery appears tasteful rather than kitschy when displayed against modern silhouettes.

Luxurious textural elements are central to this collection, evoking the brand’s iconic identity. Sumptuous crochet is paired with patchwork, cotton and drill, with fabrics fatto a mano. 3-D sculptural silhouettes and an amalgam of timeless textures create a newfound interpretation of the past.
