In his third and most recent collaboration with the German footwear brand, Rick Owens brings a goth look to the outdoorsy leisure of Birkenstock sandals.

 An unlikely match that has spanned years now, Birkenstock x Rick Owens’ Spring/Summer 2021 reunion takes three classic silhouettes – the iconic strapped Arizona, clog-like Boston, as well as the velcro-strapped Rotterdam – and gives them a sleek, all-black finish. With the Arizona and the Boston featuring extended straps and all-black metal rivets and hardware, giving them a simple, monochromatic look.

“In addition to our signature extended straps, I wanted everything in black — black leather, black patent leather and all-black hardware. In a busy, chaotic and garish world, black provides a clean and crisp graphic formality to my eyes,” Owens told HypeBeast of the newest drop.

Releasing his classic soft-leather variations of these shoes, Owens has departed from the industrial influence of previous releases featuring another version of the sandals with iridescent, foiled leather finishes. 

In recent years, Owens has also collaborated with popular footwear brands such as VEJA and Dr. Martens, as well as athleticwear and lifestyle house, Champion. His talent at bringing his own flavor and fashionable flare to daily brands combines upscale and luxury style with practical, day-to-day looks and use. 

Birkenstock x Rick Owens’ third collaboration is set to drop on June 4, and can be found on Rick Owens’ website as well as at the Birkenstock 1774 online store, where they feature their more upscale collaborations and looks.
