Rumor has it that British heartthrob and Dior Men mainstay Robert Pattinson is in line to play the titular bat-man in The Batman, the DC Comics mega-franchise’s incoming installment, directed by Matt Reeves and slated for 2021. Nothing is finalized, but as Variety reported yesterday, Pattinson is the first-pick, and the deal will likely close shortly.

Reeves has been spearheading The Batman since January of 2017, when he took over duties from Ben Affleck. Reeves’s writer-director repertoire includes critically acclaimed horror film Let Me In and two Planet of the Apes sequels. On top of screenplay and directing credits, Reeves is a co-producer of The Batman with Dylan Clark, his collaborator from Planet of the Apes. The final version of the script is still being polished.

Following his boundary-bending performance in Claire Denis’s space-age-y High Life this year, Pattinson will soon appear in Cannes select The Lighthouse, as well as The King for Netflix later this year. While it remains to be seen if his rumored metamorphosis as Bruce Wayne will redeem the disappointment of Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s safe to say Pattinson has come a long way since Cedric Diggory.

Here, we take a look back at Pattinson in lovable-werewolf form, photographed by Doug Inglish for VMAN12 ahead of his first major franchise, Twilight.
