Rolf Ekroth Unveils Spring Summer 2022 Menswear Collection

A modern take on the Finnish countryside, farm culture and pagan traditions.

Finnish designer, Rolf Ekroth, unveiled his Spring Summer 2022 Menswear collection. Drawing on the traditions and magic of home country’s Midsummer celebration, Juhannus, the collection takes on a rustic and somewhat mystical air.

Set in the Finnish countryside – featuring forests and Nordic farming culture – Ekroth takes inspiration from photographer, Leo Montonen, whose iconic shots of the countryside are heavily featured in the the collection’s video.

The pieces of the collection represent the same deep connection to his home country, both in style and material. The rustic dress and earthy, yet strong colors are reminiscent of the fresh and mysterious culture.

A key element in Ekroth’s designs is his use of Bio2TMTextile, a cotton-like fabric that uses agricultural waste as a base material. This Finnish fibre is an innovation in sustainable design. It is easier to dye and uses less water and chemicals than regular cotton, making it an ideal fibre for the hues and tie-dye appearance Ekroth favors in his collections.

Ekroth values the simple and practical. Favoring less revealing looks, his designs are inspired both by his own military experience – focusing on protection and function.

Featured both on men and women, the designs are androgynous and robust in nature. Ekroth’s brings his focus on pagan rituals and rustic farm culture into the future, assigning these traditions new life in almost futuristic design.
