Saint Laurent Drops Fall/Winter 2021 Collection ‘Night Train’
Saint Laurent releases a fun, dance video to accompany the new men’s collection
Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello mixes a little bit of the old with a little bit of the new for a wacky albeit chic presentation of the fall/winter 2021 collection. Featuring the classic Saint Laurent black skinny jeans on just about every dancer, Vaccarello leaves the creativity for the tops.
In a video presentation directed by legendary French graphic designer, illustrator, and director Jean-Paul Goude, 27 dancers model the collection. The video begins with a dancer blowing a whistle with the song “Night Train” by Oscar Washington playing then having all of the models in a uniform choreographed dance reminiscent of a corny ‘60s party dance. Mock fans wave at them as well to add to the Beatles-like frenzy. The dancers then form into groups that perform their choreography while some perform solo freestyles. The video then ends with the dancers performing on a conveyor belt that brings them onto a red bridge before a mountain landscape background.
The men’s collection features black skinny jeans and dress pants, the ‘80s inspired cheeky sweater, and a black and white checkered pattern sweater. One standout looks include a silver and black sequined jacket, felt hat, black pants, and a pop of color with a pair of light yellow socks. Another highlight features a black and dark silver patterned jacket with a silver circular pin on the left lapel, a black leather tie, red and black polka dot button-down, and of course the skinny jeans.
By combining ‘60s inspired dancing and rhythm and blues with the chic, modern-day Saint Laurent look, it was like the video was an homage to the creation of the brand in the early ‘60s while showing its influence on Saint Laurent today.
