Last night, across the Hudson River at New Jersey's Liberty Park, Anthony Vaccarello presented his Saint Laurent Spring 2019 Men's Collection, a flashy display of nostalgic glamour rooted in an unmatched moment in New York culture and fashion. Inspired by “the idea of New York, the idea of the icons of New York in the ’70s,” Vaccarello pushes menswear beyond trend and into the domain of unmatched era-renaissance allure.

The very flair-forward collection steers clear of feeling feminine, embracing slender and sleek silhouettes, meticulously tailored with a casually cool finish. Embroidered blazers and deep necklines scream '70s, with a range of high-waisted, boot-cut trousers being the showstoppers of the collection. Further emphasizing the era, the applied accessories find their own moment of acclaim, like the tangled necklaces and dark-hued boater hats liberally revealing themselves as a focal moment of each ensemble.

The night and its dance floor has always been a home for fashion's future, permitting (and often celebrating) risky business and forever establishing itself as a muse for the industry. In the finale, Vaccarello brings his vision full circle, sending an army of models doused in disco-ball silver glitter down the catwalk, mirroring the beautifully lit cityscape backdrop. Unapologetically sexy and fabulous menswear is on the horizon, and Saint Laurent is setting the unexpected and thrilling renaissance up for success.
