UK-based department store Selfridges is putting a spin on the traditional pastime of Shakespeare in the park this summer with it’s very own exposition of Shakespeare at Selfridges. On July 7, the store will debut the first Shakespeare reCITED, a collaborative hip-hop, spoken word, and fashion series that boast some of the U.K.’s most celebrated new artistic faces, including Astrid Andersen, Liam Hodges, and Little Simz. The campaign is in conjunction with Selfridges’ summer long marketing initiative Shakespeare Refashioned, a fashion driven reinterpretation of Shakespearean culture 400 years after the poet and playwright’s death.

During the event, hip-hop and spoken word artists will remix classic William Shakespeare poems and recite original pieces inspired by his work in front of a live audience. Aside from paying tribute to one of the world’s most talented literary greats, the evening will celebrate the release of several capsule collections between hip-hop and spoken word artists and designers: Novelist x New Future London, Krept & Konan x Astrid Andersen, James Messiah x Liam Hodges, Rejjie Snow x Life’s a Beach, Little Simz x Caitlin Price. All proceeds from the collections will go to the charities of each collaborators choice.

The event will take place at Selfridges, Oxford Street, find out more about attending here.
