Shawn Mendes Drops His New Single Called “Wonder”

The track, which comes with a music video, is the lead single from his upcoming fourth studio album of the same name.

While we’ve all been wondering how we’re going to survive the rest of this year, Shawn Mendes has a host of other things to wonder about. And he does so on his new single, “Wonder”. The song is his first since “Señorita”, his collaboration with Camila Cabello that became a global hit last year.

“Wonder” is a sweeping pop ballad that starts off slow and builds to a momentous explosion of a chorus. With pulsing drums and almost gospel-like background vocals, the track creates a rush while also lulling you into a sense of calm. Mendes also co-produced and co-wrote the song, which features lyrics of him wondering how he’s being received by the people around him and circling back to “I wonder what it’s like to be loved by you” in the chorus.

Mendes promoted the song’s release with a new Instagram account called @whatiswonder. He also posted a letter to his fans about the song and the album. “It really feels like a piece of me has been written down on paper and recorded into song. I tried to be as real and as honest as I’ve ever been,” he writes. Wonder-related merch is now also available on Mendes’ website.

The song comes with a music video, directed by Matty Peacock, which features Mendes atop a running train, dancing in a forest, and getting drenched on a cliff with the sea below, all surrounded by stunning scenery. The opening scenes with the train, in particular, may remind you of the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter movies.

“Wonder” is the lead single off of Mendes’ fourth studio album, also titled Wonder. The album will be released on December 4, 2020. Listen to and watch the music video for the new hit single down below:
