Sterling Ruby Adds Artwork and Clothing to ‘UNIQUE’ Collection
Ruby created a new art installation and clothing items for ‘UNIQUE’
Dutch American artist Sterling Ruby once again intertwines art and clothing to produce a new art installation and clothing line inspired by his “UNIQUE” collection — now debuting at Dover Street Market in Los Angeles.
Much like his clothing brand, Ruby’s art installation is a collection of concepts, textiles and experimentation. Presented by Ruby’s S.R. Studio, the installation is a larger than life piece held together by an aluminum polished structure. Hanging off the metal structure are fabrics, shirts and even items including a shovel and bleach container.
These 3D items are all displayed alongside specific fabrics with the intent of showing a direct connection: an aluminum crusted bleach bottle hangs beside a fabric treated with bleach and the book cover of Hannah Ardent’s “On Violence” is placed near an axe.
Continuing in the tradition of releasing art alongside clothing, additions to Ruby’s “UNIQUE” collection are available exclusively on S.R. Studio’s website and in Ruby’s studio located in Los Angeles. Ruby’s “UNIQUE” collection consists of pants, skirts, jackets, bucket hats and hand-bags that are practically stand-alone art pieces. Each piece includes a signature, date and inventory number.
Ruby is an American Dutch artist based in Los Angeles known internationally for his interdisciplinary work. His past pieces have been created by using techniques grounded in sculpture, ceramic, video, collage, photography, textile and paint. The Museum of Modern Art, Guggenheim and Whitney have all displayed pieces by Ruby.
S.R. STUDIO has been producing artwork alongside fashion for over a decade. Their collection’s SOTO, ED. 50, UNIQUE and OBJECTS are inspired by American traditions, culture and craft.
