The creative director of Y/Project, Glenn Martens, is at the forefront of Paris’ current consortium of fashion designers creating and leading the streetwear revolution. The amalgamation of seemingly counterintuitive elements that he sneaks into his designs fueled our excitement to see his Spring 2019 Paris Fashion Week show, and we are happy to report that the designer did not disappoint. (Adding to this excitement was the fact that Marten's knee-high boots recently made their debut on Beyoncé and Jay-Z's 'Apesh*t' video.)

Never one to conform, the designer used the anatomy of classic suits, jackets, and sportswear as tangible bedrocks for layers of Lycra fabric to be stretched over. Believe us - the lycra was just about everywhere: on collars, over chests, and across waists. Crotch accents also made an appearance on the runway, as the fronts of jeans were artificially extended outward. The resulting “pop-out” appearance is definitely a novel accent that adheres to the designer's reticence to create simply for the sake of aesthetic appreciation.

In fact, Martens made the following claim after the show: “It’s not about being beautiful, it’s more about experimentation, to see how far we can go and what we can do, it’s up to you to like it or not to like it but it’s not a point of being something really commercial." The designs, much like the creative designer behind them, left us wanting more.
