The Best Looks from the 2022 Oscars
Here are the best looks from the most dramatic Oscars ever.
The 94th Academy Awards were… dramatic. But the real drama kicked off on the red carpet, before the show even began. While there were plenty of misses, most of our favorite A-listers came to Hollywood’s biggest night dressed up and ready to win.
As far as trends go, purple and red had their moments on the red carpet, as did pastels. Ruffles and sequins were the details of choice, and clearly, menswear-inspired looks are here to stay.
Take a look at VMAN’s list of best dressed from last night’s show.
Timothée Chalamet – custom Louis Vuitton
I mean… I MEAN! How many people are still thinking about this shirtless Louis Vuitton look? If the sparkly, lace-trim jacket wasn’t enough of a serve, his Cartier diamond necklace really took this look to a new level. One thing is for sure: Timothèe definitely knows what he’s doing when it comes to a red carpet.
Lily James – Atelier Versace
Lily James looked like a princess in this form-fitting, pink lace dress from Atelier Versace AW 21. She accessorized with platform heels (very Pamela Anderson of her) and a big diamond necklace. Her new brunette hair looked gorgeous, as well.
Zendaya – Valentino Haute Couture
Zendaya stunned in her cropped, collared shirt from Valentino. The simple top was paired with a stunning beaded skirt and a messy updo. Zendaya has experimented with two-pieces on the red carpet before, she she pulls it off Every. Single. Time.
Kevin Jonas – Brunello Cucinelli
We didn’t have Kevin Jonas attending (and preforming!) the Oscars on our 2022 bingo card, but we’re not mad about it! The oldest Jonas Brother shook it up a bit and went for a monochromatic navy look from Brunello Cucinelli, which was tailored to perfection.
Demi Singleton – custom Miu Miu
The 15-year-old “King Richard” star stunned in this custom lilac Miu Miu dress. The simple silhouette allowed for the beaded detailing to stand out. Miu Miu, who is taking advantage of the Gen Z support of their iconic mini skirt, dressed the young star perfectly for the big night.
Jessica Chastain – Gucci
This year’s Best Actress won the red carpet with this gradient dress from Gucci. The puffy skirt contrasts with the perfectly tailored bodice, and the tulle hem adds dimension. Lilac just might be the color of the season, too.
Kodi Smit-McPhee – Bottega Veneta
Kodi Smit-McPhee has become a style icon with his red carpet looks through this year’s awards season. The Best Supporting Actor nominee stunned again at the Oscars in a double-breasted, monochromatic baby blue Bottega Veneta suit. He finished his look with platform Bottega Veneta boots and Cartier rings.
Jacob Elordi – Burberry
Actor Jacob Elordi’s Burberry suit proved that sometimes, simple is best. The classic suit was tailored to perfection, and his Tag Heuer watch was the perfect classy accessory for his classy suit. Of course, the true standout accessory was his tiny little hoop earring (hot), which gave his look the smallest bit of Nate-approved edginess.
Zoë Kravitz – Saint Laurent
It might be impossible for Zoë Kravitz to look bad. Our ultimate girl crush continued the pastel trend with her bubblegum pink strapless gown from Saint Laurent. The look was simple and sophisticated, and came all tied together with a little bow. Perfect for the Academy Awards.
Andrew Garfield – Saint Laurent
Also dressed in Saint Laurent and accessorized with a bow was nominee Andrew Garfield, who wowed in his double-breasted, burgundy velvet jacket (he broke the monochromatic trend by going for traditional black tuxedo pants). His Omega watch tied the look together.
Maggie Gyllenhaal – Schiaparelli
The writer and director wore a chic column gown from Schiaparelli Haute Couture. Decorated with statement gold accent pieces, this custom gown is a red carpet version of the similar dress from Schiaparelli’s Spring 2022 collection. Gyllenhaal usually wears more traditional dresses on the red carpet, so this opulent look came as a bit of a shock.
Simu Liu – Versace
The Canadian superhero made his Oscars debut in a red-hot suit thanks to Versace. The gold detailing on the suit matched his gold Omega watch perfectly, and his patent leather loafers (sans socks) worked with the slightly cropped pants.
Lupita Nyong’o – Prada
The reigning queen of the Oscars red carpet succeeded again with this shiny gold Prada gown. Complete with moving gold bar details and sequins designed to look like pink roses, the dress hit the nail on the head in terms of the required amount of glitz and glam for on Oscars dress. Oh, and it had a stunning low-cut back.
Bill Murray – Dior
“Make red carpets fun again!” said Bill Murray, probably. The actor took his standard Dior suit and added a polka-dot scarf and a black beret, giving the red carpet the bit of playful energy it needed.
Venus Williams – custom Elie Saab
The tennis legend and subject of “King Richard” wowed in this daring Elie Saab dress. The plunging neckline was lined with a silver trim, which matched her statement cuff bracelets. Her big ponytail gave this look an extra boost of retro-chic.
Will Smith – Dolce & Gabbana
The night’s most talked about man wore a mohair wool tuxedo by Dolce & Gabbana. His double-breasted waistcoat and lapel made his suit stand out amongst the crowd. He topped off his award-winning look with a Cartier earring.
Ariana DeBose – custom Valentino
This year’s Best Supporting Actress made Oscars history while dressed like the red carpet itself. Her custom Valentino look was a cross between a gown and a suit, with a plunging, tailored top and train and matching tuxedo pants. The unique neckline allowed her 80 carat De Beers necklace to shine.
Jamie Dornan – Valentino
Jamie Dornan’s simple oversized Valentino look was Oscar-worthy. His double-breasted jacket was longer and wider than the closely tailored jackets of his peers, making the look stand out. Not many designers can nail relaxed black-tie, but Valentino did with this tux.
Kristen Stewart – Chanel
By now, we should all know that if Kristen Stewart is walking a red carpet, she’ll be wearing Chanel. Lately, Chanel has been styling her in an array of looks with shorts, and the Oscar’s were no different. Her single button-up shirt allowed for her pearl necklace to peep through in a classy yet rock ‘n’ roll way. Love it or hate it, this look is classic KStew.
