The Best Men’s Looks from the 2022 MTV EMAs

More than just the classic tux!

For this awards show, we’re hopping across the pond. No, not England; Düsseldorf, Germany, to be exact. For the MTV European Music Awards, stars from film, social media, and (yes) music showed up in their finest attire. As celebrity after celebrity strutted down the red carpet, there were certainly some hits and some misses. Those highs soared, though, and deserve our fullest attention.

Menswear on the red carpet can be a bit of a sore subject, simply because the looks can be so stayed. Do we really need another black tuxedo? Though there is certainly something to be said for classic elegance, the best menswear looks push the envelope, and experiment in new realms of fashion. For the EMAs, there was certainly more than your boring suit. There’s so much incredible menswear to see.

The British rapper who recently signed to Idris Elba’s label was spotted at the VMAs sporting a clean white power suit, printed with a multi-patterned oversized star symbol. Expertly accessorized with a bucket hat, designer briefcase, and a litany of rings, Che Lingo seemed to have his finger on the pulse of where menswear is right now.

Shorts? On the red carpet? Though we may never have thought it would work, Luca Vezil seems to pull it off. The fashion and sports influencers took on the red carpet legs-out in a yellow JORDANLUCA jacket and shorts pairing, matched with a simple pair of Dr. Martens.

Right before his red-carpet performance, rapper Armani White brought some creative spirit to the step-and-repeat. Known for his TikTok hit “Billie Eillish,” White grabbed attention in his matching MCM custom pants and backpack.

One fun thing about the EMAs red carpet: we don’t just get individuals, we get bands! The Dutch electropop hit Goldband arrived together, all three members sporting unconventional printed menswear looks.

Dripping in jewels, Brazilian journalist and presenter Hugo Gloss was his own mirrorball for the EMAs. Crafted by Michelly X, the thoroughly bejeweled suit caught eyes everywhere.

Taika Waititi

I know, I know, a boring old black suit. How inventive. But there’s power in the elegance of it all, sleek and clean in its design and high-brow in its outlook. And, fortunately for us, Waititi changed outfits throughout the night to accommodate his hosting gig. Skip forward an hour or two and you’ll see Waititi in an extravagant pleated skirt.

One of the most fascinating trends in menswear has been the usage of new materials in standard suits. Rather than changing the form, these looks change the base elements. Check out Mexican actor Luis Gerardo Méndez, spotted in a Roberto Cavalli suit filled with lace crosshatches.

Muse

Old guard, new fashion. The classic rock band Muse was celebrated at the EMAs, with each of the members making an appearance with their loved ones. Ultimately the bandmates came together for a picture, showcasing some of the most interesting trends in menswear. New to the EMAs red carpet? Spray paint.

Jack Fowler

“Love Island” fans rejoice; your favorite heartthrob made his way to the MTV EMAs, and the results were glorious. After interviewing many of the stars walking the carpet, Fowler was able to walk it himself. Dressed head-to-toe in a loom-patterned rainbow suit, Fowler certainly made his mark.

South African rapper Nasty C brings his suave too-cool air to the EMAs, wearing a gradient-hued jacket. Matched with artful jewelry and wide-framed sunglasses, Nasty C proves that he has an eye for fashion.
