Having marked our calendars for this week since temperatures dropped 50 degrees in Fahrenheit, we’re happy to announce that Art Basel Miami quickly approaches. Taking place during Design Week Miami, Art Basel is a three day art festival hosting a number of notable shows by visiting galleries across the world. Not only a beachside escapade of art-binging, but also one of tequila-chugging, Basel is well-renowned for its parties as it is for its exhibits.

The Miami Beach Convention Center will be host to 268 exhibitors and gallerists, including Berlin-based purveyor of contemporary Latin American art, Barbara Thumm, and a booth exploring discourses of sexuality and gender identity by David Castillo. Miami's Design Destrict will also act as a hub for installations by designers partaking in the culture, like Emilio Pucci's installation on hair with Nicholas French at Pucci's own boutique and Saint Laurent's "Self 02" project by Vanessa Beecroft on display at their store.

As for the parties, you’re going to want to take some notes. Review below for our definitive guide on where to celebrate this Basel season.

Thursday, December 6th

What: The first official day of Art Basel will see the closing of the three-day PRADA MODE MIAMI party. If it sounds exclusive, that’s because it is. With personal, non-transferable invites sent to its guests and RSVP mandatory, this one may be a tough one to crash. That said, the faint of heart and shy to show up do not make up the Basel crowd. The closing party will feature a performance by the Black Monks of Mississippi and a performance piece by artist Theaster Gates, as well as DJ sets.

What: A phone-free party—what a concept. In the digital age, You Had To Be There is a party bringing its unique mission of banning our virtual distractions to Miami for Art Basel. Don't fret, for your phone will still be on your body, just locked up in a pouch that will discourage from use, depending on the strength of your willpower to resist.
