The Oscars Shortlist is Here!

Nine categories have narrowed their picks down to 10-15 contenders

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released a shortlist for select categories for the 93rd Academy Awards. The shortlist includes contenders for nine categories that have been narrowed down to 10-15 picks for the big prize. The categories are Documentary Feature, Documentary Short Subject, International Feature Film, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song), Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, and Visual Effects.

Of the categories it could’ve made the shortlist in, Mank, Mulan, and, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, scored best, making the shortlist in three. Jingle Jangle, in particular, comes as a surprise, given that it hasn’t been nominated for any other major prizes, apart from the NAACP Image Awards. Whether it will make the actual cut remains to be seen.

Voting for the shortlist concluded on February 5, while nominations voting will run from March 5 to 9, 2021. The official 93rd Academy Award nominations will be announced on March 15, and the awards are slated to take place on April 25.
