The Sixth Installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean Series is Underway

It’s been five years since the last Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Will 2022 be the year for the highly anticipated sixth film?

The Pirates of the Caribbean film series has continuously been a huge success at the box office, with each film grossing over $650 million. The franchise has also grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide, and is the 14th-highest grossing film series of all time. It’s been five long years since the release of  the fifth film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales back in 2017, but no need to fret, the sixth film is underway!

The sixth, swashbuckler film has been rumored to be in the works since June 2020, when the movie’s script was still in a stage of development. Amid the defamation trial currently happening between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, longtime producer of the series, Jerry Bruckheimer  has stated that “the future is yet to be decided” when asked if Depp was attached to two potential Pirates projects. Depp himself has stated in court recently that he has no interest in returning, and there is nothing Disney could offer to get him to come back.

Jerry Bruckheimer has also revealed that there are two scripts in the works because the team has been talking to Margot Robbie to potentially lead a new Pirates project. Bringing in an actor as well known and talented as Robbie is sure to gain traction, however die-hard fans question the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise without Johnny Depp returning as the witty Captain Jack Sparrow.
