The Weeknd Performs in the Rain at the 2021 Brit Awards

The singer performed “Save Your Tears” alongside Oneohtrix Point Never.

The Weeknd brought a rainy set for his performance of “Save Your Tears” at the 2021 Brit Awards on Tuesday night. The singer ditched his signature After Hours red suit and bandages and appeared almost entirely covered in a black sailor-style (or Paddington-style, as some people pointed out) Valentino raincoat, complete with matching bucket hat and boots.

The Weeknd was joined on the keyboard by Daniel Lopatin, aka Oneohtrix Point Never, who collaborated on the album and also worked as the musical director of the singer’s Super Bowl show in February.

The two were inside a cool-lit concrete box in the middle of nowhere while thunder and lightning blasted outside. Towards the end, the lights turned red and The Weeknd stepped out to sing in the rain.

A few minutes later, the singer accepted the award for Best International Male Solo Artist, presented by former First Lady Michelle Obama, who praised him for his contribution to music and humanitarian causes, including a Covid-19 relief fund and supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

“He’s made his impact not just on stage and in our earbuds,” Obama said. “Let’s just say that, in a tough year, he’s provided a light that’s pretty blinding and given us all a reason to dance.”

The Weeknd thanked his British fans under heavy rain and spoke about the ongoing crisis in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. “To my people in Ethiopia who are suffering, you are deep in my heart,” he said. “To everyone watching, please help where you can.”

The singer recently released a remix of “Save Your Tears” featuring Ariana Grande, which is currently at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Watch the full performance at the 2021 Brit Awards below:
