The Weeknd Releases Another Greatest Hits Album, “The Highlights”

The album comes in anticipation of the Weeknd’s Halftime Show performance

In the build-up to his big Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, the Weeknd has released a greatest hits album. Titled The Highlights, the album is his second compilation record following 2018’s The Weeknd in Japan.

The record features 18 of the Canadian artist’s most recognizable hits, spanning all the way from his debut mixtape, 2011’s House of Balloons, to his most recent release, last year’s After Hours. The album opens with his latest single, “Save Your Tears,” and even features a cover donning the same red suit from the After Hours era.

The Weeknd’s collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, and Daft Punk also make the cut, along with his song for the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, “Earned It.” Unlike his last greatest hits record, this one features mostly his biggest hits, ones that even casual fans will recognize and enjoy, and only sees a slight dip in the pond of music that he’d released before he became a household (and sex playlist) name.

The Highlights serves as a little nugget for fans before the Weeknd takes the stage for his Super Bowl LV Halftime Show performance. The performance is slated for this Sunday, February 7, 2021, and will take place in Tampa, Florida. While it is unclear if any other artists will join him on stage (and who they might be), reps for the artist confirmed that the performance would last for 12-13 minutes. Several of the songs from the new album are likely to be on the singer’s set-list.
