Brimming with nostalgia for days spent outdoors, camping with family and friends—or perhaps solo—the second Todd Snyder x L.L. Bean collaboration instantly transports to Maine, or another forest beaming with adventure. Todd Snyder, known for designing for a different type of adventure—one within a city, full of tailored trench coats and suit jackets—may initially seem like an unexpected match for the great outdoor conglomerate L.L. Bean. Upon further investigation, however, the designer Todd Snyder himself shares his longtime dream of working with the Freeport, Maine-based brand. 

“I’ve wanted to work with L.L.Bean ever since I started my own company in 2011,” writes Snyder. “When I finally got the chance last year, I visited the company’s archive. Being inside the archive I was reminded of how many iconic styles the company either invented or popularized. The creative challenge became how do we tap into the nostalgia that many of us feel for these clothes while making them relevant to a new generation.”

With contemporary remakes of classic L.L. Bean staples like the Baxter State Parka, the Ranger Shirt, or the Cruiser Boot, this sequel collaboration collection is apt for the modern dresser indeed. Entitled “Upta Camp,” this collection prepares the wearer for weathering through fall conditions camping in the forest, or trudging through the local park on a chilly afternoon. Chinos in dark granite or khaki, along with wool and cashmere beanies and crewneck heritage sweaters—featuring the classic Bean boot or an artistic trout—ensure warmth in both the literal and nostalgic senses. 

Sherpa and fishing jackets in camo and navy blue, along with the essential plaid flannel, emulate the rustic joys of a day spent in nature and encourage the wearer to delve into the outdoors wherever they may be. A turtleneck sweatshirt in grey printed with a scenic view of a lighthouse in Maine, along with crewnecks embroidered with “Freeport, Maine,” inspire to make the trek up north to the home of Leon Leonwood Bean, as did Snyder. Go for the views, stay for the cozy and classic apparel, but no matter what, remember to embrace the power of a good adventure whether that be camping or just getting outside.
