Last year, European fans watched with envy as Charli xcx and Troye Sivan brought their Sweat Tour across North America, with no international dates in sight. So when Primavera Sound revealed that Charli’s Thursday night set would transform into the first-ever, one-night-only European Sweat show, lucky festival-goers knew they were in for a night they wouldn’t forget.
But the Primavera show landed on the heels of a major moment: Troye Sivan’s 30th birthday. It’s not every day you turn 30—though for Troye, the moment might be harder to believe, thanks to his famously boyish looks. It’s also not every day you get to celebrate in Barcelona, Spain, just hours before hitting the stage at one of the biggest music festivals in the world. But that’s exactly how the Australian pop star casually rang in a new decade.
The night before the show, Troye marked the occasion with a birthday dinner and party at Casa Costa in Barcelona, joined by Charli xcx, Marc Forné, and close friends. His family also flew in from Australia to be part of the celebration.
The next day, Troye and his crew made their way to Parc del Fòrum to play the historic, first-ever Sweat Tour stop in the Iberian Peninsula. During his portion of the set, the Australian singer seemed ecstatic as he delivered hits like “Rush” and “One Of Your Girls” from his latest studio album, Something to Give Each Other. The energy in the crowd reflected that buzz. Fans packed the front of the stage, screaming every lyric back as Troye delivered a set that balanced high energy with the kind of choreographed dance pop he’s perfected.
Here, Troye took VMAN behind the scenes of his 30th birthday celebration and performance of his Sweat Tour with Charli xcx at Primavera Sound—check out the exclusive photo diary below.
