Travis Scott will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show but only because of an agreement with the NFL: that they will make a half-million dollar donation to Dream Corps, Van Jones’ non-profit organization that aids with social justice initiatives. He was originally signed on to perform with Maroon 5 in December but has come under criticism because the NFL halftime performance has since become a symbol of complicity in the protest against injustices in America.

What was once the world’s most coveted performance for any entertainer, had evolved into a bit of a fiasco. Tensions have fun high over the past year in regards to the political debate over Colin Kaepernick's call to action: his kneeling for the national anthem in order to protest police brutality and the oppression of black people in the United States.

In a press realase, Scott said, “I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in. I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”
