For the city of Houston’s third annual Travis Scott Day, rapper Travis Scott is now partnering with his Texas hometown and NYC-based Parsons School of Design through his recently established Cactus Jack Foundation. The Cactus Jack Foundation’s mission is to promote education and provide creative resources to young people who may not have open access to them.

The Foundation’s first initiatives will support Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or HBCUs, and fund fashion programs for Houston high schoolers. Under this, Scott has founded a scholarship program, named after his grandfather Waymon Webster.

The scholarship has already been granted to the first round of students at HBCUs, including Prairie View A&M University, his mother’s alma mater and where his grandfather had been a Dean. The Waymon Webster Scholarship will cover each recipient’s tuition fees until the end of their following academic year (2020-2021).

The face of Saint Laurent, Travis Scott has also been known for his ultra stylish streetwear mixed with luxury fashion fits, and hopes to encourage other young voices in the creative field.

Under their multi-year partnership with Houston and Parsons, Cactus Jack and My Brother’s Keeper will bring fashion design programs to high school students in Houston, providing the resources for young kids who want to explore the field of design and may not have access to elsewhere.

This unprecedented design certification course will be led by world-renowned Parsons faculty in an immersive program, for their first ever celebrity partnership. The program will be brought to Houston, with opportunities for students across the nation to get involved online via scholarship grants. Though fashion education is often left out of creative curriculums at the high school level, this initiative will support young creatives and validate their interests in art and design.

Cactus Jack’s partnership with Houston has also started a community garden effort in elementary schools with the purpose of educating students about nutritional values and agriculture while addressing food insecurity.

Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation emphasizes the importance of education in one’s life, whether that be through university or in the creative fields, everyone should be able to explore their interests in enriching ways and have access to the education they want.
